The Jordan Spieth Family Foundation handed the Carson Leslie Foundation a Gimme, just in time for Christmas🎅
Last week we were honored to spend two hours with Mrs. Annie Spieth, Jordan’s high-school sweetheart, now his brand new bride!
During our visit, we learned that childhood cancer, a new pillar of philanthropy for the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation (JSFF) is personal to both Jordan and Annie.
Jordan attended Jesuit College Prep and lost one of his buddies to childhood cancer.
Annie attended Ursuline Academy and has been passionate about childhood cancer ever since one of her high school gal-pals battled cancer.
During our chat, we learned Annie, Jordan and Carson grew up in the same neighborhood, Preston Hollow, attended private schools within a 10-mile radius of one another and were in the same grade.
When Carson was a kid, his backpack was always Under Armour. So in 2016, CLF launched an Under Armour Backpack Project (UA-BP) where we provide UA backpacks to teen cancer patients full of items for extended hospital stays.
UA-BP has been so wildly popular at Children’s Dallas, we decided to expand to other hospitals who care for teen cancer patients. Our decision came on the heels of JSFF announcing their new pillar of philanthropic giving. So we sent in an application, kept our fingers crossed, threw up a few prayers, it is now Game On!
We are honored to have a perfect partner in our UA-BP with a collective goal: help teens battling cancer know there was someone who walked in their shoes and a champion golfer, who decided to pair up to cheer them on.
Jacob Senden, son of PGA Aussie John Senden, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Jacob’s diagnosis became public when Spieth and other AT&T Byron Nelson players wore pins with an image of a Rubik’s Cube, Jacob’s favorite game.
The Senden’s and Leslie’s have become close friends and recently chatted about placing Rubik’s cubes in each backpack to honor Jacob. Last week, Austin-based Dell Corporation called CLF to ask how they can help again with our UA-BP, we requested 800 Rubik’s Cubes!
There’s a wide collaboration behind this Project. Collaboration is exactly how CLF operates in both research and encouragement of teens in the battle, because working together is how we can make a much larger impact.
