helping kids fight cancer

To whom this may concern,

My name is Jairo Pina and I would like to speak about the life changing impact that the Carson Leslie Foundation has had on me. I also strongly believe that I am speaking on the behalf of many individuals that have been invited to events by this foundation. I was initially diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone tumor) when I was 16 years old. Unfortunately, I relapsed twice after the first occurrence of my diagnosis. In present day, I have been in remission for 3 years and am now a Hematology/Oncology nurse at Children’s Medical Center where I once was a patient. The Carson Leslie Foundation has invited me to a Texas Rangers game, Dallas Cowboys game, and to a Dallas Christmas symphony show.

The experience in the events I just stated have brought an overwhelming warm feeling in my heart. Experiences that I carry with me which have provided strength and encouragement to keep going even through life’s darkest moments. I have witnessed many children and teenagers at these events with a radiant smile on their faces as if it pauses the difficulties of their physical and mental state of being. This foundation also benefits individuals such as myself to interact with others going through the hardships of cancer. This is a remarkable gift because at times I just wanted to be around people that understood what I was experiencing.

I did not personally meet Carson Leslie, but if there was anything I could tell him it would be about how grateful I am towards him. I can only imagine the strength and bravery Carson had in his heart. Carson not only left his tumors to be studied, but also left two loving parents with a vision to spread light to those like myself which were in darkness. I’m certain that Carson is watching the goodness that he has left behind and all the priceless moments he has been able to share with many going through cancer even till this day. This is why I strongly support the Carson Leslie Foundation and the selflessness that they have towards many children and teenagers that are and have battled cancer. I thank you for taking the time to read this and anticipate that you too will support the Carson Leslie Foundation for what it truly is.

Sincerely,
Jairo Pina
