helping kids fight cancer
Home » Carrying On » Childhood cancer is Part of Me…

Last week I over heard someone saying, that’s the lady whose son died of cancer…then, they both kindly walked over and we talked…

Childhood cancer will always be part of who I am…
I’ve been blue lately.
And I know it’s because of the company I have been keeping!
That company comes with a burden.
But it’s worth it because children are worth it!
Here’s the skinny on some of my company:
·      Tuesday, a young boy died from medulloblastoma, same disease as our Carson.  Sure bet Carson is showing him the ropes of heaven…
·      Last week a young boy was transferred to hospice care, his young life cut short and death is imminent…
·      Two weeks ago a young boy’s leg was amputated because of a large, invasive, disgusting tumor.  He faces a lifetime of trials.
In the mist of feeling the burden of these children’s journeys, I received a letter from Congressman McCaul’s office confirming that the childhood cancer research work that I have had the privilege of being part of in Washington, D.C. is coming to fruition and making GREAT progress!
This helps my “blueness” because fighting the thief who stole my boy is very healing to me!
Here’s a bit of the letter from Congressman McCaul’s office:
“I am extremely grateful to Annette Leslie for her tremendous passion and hard work on behalf of children with cancer.  For the past two years she has played an instrumental role in building support for the Creating Hope Act, which was unanimously approved in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and will provide incentives for the development of new drugs to treat children with rare diseases, such as pediatric cancer.  Since the 1980s, only one new childhood cancer drug has been approved by the FDA to treat pediatric cancer, which is the leading disease killer of our nation’s children. Annette’s advocacy has been essential in the fight for new treatments. Annette has been an extraordinary advocate and leader! The Creating Hope Act passed yesterday evening in the House!”
children are worth fighting for…
It’s a HONOR to carry part of their burden and to fight their fight…
